About Andrea Gates, PharmD

Andrea Gates, PharmD, launched Gates Pharmaceutical Consulting in 2011 with 10+ years of experience in the medical communications arena on the agency side. Andrea’s creativity and strategic approach to branding make her a true asset to building a brand’s identity through medical content.

Andrea was a Managing Director at Scientivity in Tarrytown, NY from 2010 to 2011. She led development of a large initiative for nurse practitioners and physician assistants in the hematology/oncology arena. The program branding and campaign, in addition to over 50 pieces, was successfully developed and launched in less than a year. In addition, Andrea managed KOL development, advisory meetings, and content development for a multiple sclerosis franchise while at Scientivity.

Andrea started her career in medical communications working in account management at The Resource Group, a Saatchi & Saatchi healthcare agency. At The Resource Group, Andrea worked in rheumatology, diabetes, travel medicine, and vaccines. Her primary role was account management but she was also a regular contributor to content development.

Following her stint at The Resource Group, Andrea joined AlphaMedica, a Westchester-based agency, as a scientific lead. For several years she was a medical director and then she ran the scientific communications team of medical writers and editors. Her responsibilities included content development, medical strategy development, pitch preparation, and managing the medical and editorial team. She worked in a variety of clinical areas including: critical care, infectious diseases, neurocritical care, pain medicine, anesthesiology, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, hospital medicine, thrombosis, oncology, hematology, imaging, neonatology, respiratory medicine, and endocrinology.

Andrea earned her BS and PharmD at Rutgers University, College of Pharmacy, where she completed clinical rotations in a variety of disciplines. While earning her degrees, she worked in over-the-counter product development at Warner-Lambert and as a retail pharmacist.
